Small 18th.c. Oak Coffer

Unusually small early 18th.c. oak coffer c.1720. Just 33" wide. panelled lid opening on the original iron hoop hinges to reveal storage space inside plus a small compartment to the right hand side, the lid of which forms a stay for the lid of the chest. Particularly attractive carved detail to the front panels featuring a raised cross within a diamond lozenge with chip carved border and punched detail. Raised carving of scrolling foliage to the top rail. Moulded and chamfered centre mullion (stamped with the initials TP) and bottom rail. Oak panelled sides and back, oak floor boards. Some previous restorations with a later lock plate and replacement stiles. Excellent condition with particularly good colour to the top and front. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
