19th.c. Italian Kingsize Double Bed c.1860

Spectacular mid 19th.c. Italian kingsize double bed, possibly Venetian c.1860. Dramatic design in ebony, amboyna and mahogany veneers with extensive brass inlays, gilded detail and mother of pearl laid onto thick solid mahogany groundwork. Headboard, flanked with turned columns and topped with a remarkable shaped cartouche and gilded top knot (both removable), stands 90" tall. Gondola shaped footboard with carved acanthus detail to the tops and knees, with large carved claw feet. Wooden side rails and centre stretcher with middle leg. To take a 60" x 78" kingsize mattress. Slatted bed base supplied. Some wear to the veneers and gilding and missing some portions of the brass inlay. Generally good condition, restored cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
