Portrait of a Priest c.1880

Good sized late 19th.c. French portrait of a priest in oil on canvas c.1880. Half length seated portrait of a kindly looking older gentleman in a priest’s cassock. Sat on an interestingly upholstered chair beside a table and holding an open book of handwritten text, a sermon perhaps, which he gestures towards with his free hand. With a red cloth on the table upon which sits a bible and an altar crucifix. Confidently painted with particularly good treatment of the face and hands. Some minor damage to the edges of the canvas, otherwise good condition, presented as found on the original wooden stretcher.
