Classical Terracotta Head of the Hermes of Praxitele c.1950

Large Classical terracotta head by the Paris makers D'Arly c.1950. A replica of the Hermes of Praxitele, an ancient Greek sculpture of the herald of the gods found at Olympia in 1877 and attributed to the 4th century sculptor Praxitele. Well modelled in pale terracotta, with maker's stamp and an annotation scored into the clay when soft. Very minor surface wear, generally very good condition.
