Welsh Oak Coffer on Stand c.1780
Late 18th.c. Welsh oak coffer on a five drawer stand, from the Carmarthenshire area c.1780. Large chest or coffer with a hinged lid (note the original iron hinges) over a run of four raised and fielded ogee arch top panels set within moulded surrounds across the front. With lovely carved fluer de lis detail at the point of each panel and twist carved detail to the front corners. The chest sits on the original stand with three short and two long drawers with brass swan neck handles and moulded edges to the drawer fronts. Shaped mouldings around the waist and base, raised on tall bracket feet front and rear. Raised and fielded panels to the sides of both pieces, thick oak backboards and floor. Excellent condition with a particularly good colour and patina. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
