Spelter Sculpture of a Stag at Bay c.1930
Splendid French spelter sculpture of a stag at bay by I. Lecourtier (presumably a relative of the great French animal sculptor Prosper Lecourtier) c.1930. Well modelled as a large stag with a fine set of antlers, stood on a rocky outcrop, his head raised in a roar. With a duck swimming on the water below the rock. Crisply cast in spelter with a good gold bronze finish. Signed I.Lecourter in the cast at one end and stamped France at the other. Raised on a green veined marble plinth with a plaque inscribed 'Cerf Aux Abois' (Stag at Bay) 'Par Lecourtier (Med. d'Or)' (Gold medal). Excellent condition.
