Small Sheraton Style Secretaire Bookcase by S&H Jewell c.1890

Fine quality little late 19th.c. Sheraton revival secretaire bookcase by the high end cabinet makers S&H Jewell of London c.1890. Useful small size, just 31½" wide. In two pieces with a glazed bookcase top fitted with two shelves (internal depth 7¼"). Over a secretaire base with the top drawer opening to form a writing bureau with a leather work surface (height 29½") and a fitted interior of pigeon holes and three slim stationery drawers. With three long drawers of graduated height below the desk. Topped with a swan neck pediment and inlaid frieze of Classical motifs. Over shapely satinwood crossbanded and ebony inlaid glazing bars. Extensive marquetry inlaid decoration to the top of the base and to each of the drawer fronts which are also satin wood crossbanded and inlaid with ebony and boxwood stringing. Retaining the original brass handles and original knobs to the interior. Further crossbanding around the base, shaped apron and feet. Solid mahogany groundwork, sides and drawer linings. Maker's badge inside the top drawer below the desk. Very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied for the bookcase doors.
