Small Carved Oak Settle c.1880
Neat little 17th.c. style carved oak box settle or hall seat c.1880. Unusual small size, just 38" wide. Sloping panelled backrest carved with a 'green man' mask and Renaissance style grotesques. Short moulded arms also carved with lovely green man heads at the terminals. Over a board seat (height 16", depth 13") which lifts to reveal useful storage inside for boots and shoes etc. Deep carved linen fold panels across the front below the seat. Chamfered front stiles. Solid oak sides and backboard. With old burn mark from a candle or lamp on the left hand mullion between the panels. Otherwise very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
