Secessionist High Back Settle c.1910

Unusual early 20th.c. high back settle c.1910. Of striking design with an Arts & Crafts influence typical of the Austrian Secessionists, whose work was a formative influence on the modernist and Art Deco design movements. Tall back with a shaped top rail mounted with large repoussé brass panels featuring sunflower heads, between rear stiles topped with a carved leaf detail. Padded backrest and seat and enclosed arms with supports also carved with the same leaf detail and half columns. Deep apron below the seats with the leaf detail repeated where it joins the stiles front and rear. Recently reupholstered in a woven fabric by the great Secessionist Architect and designer Josef Hoffmann. Excellent condition with clean covers, the frame has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
