Brittany Seascape by Louis Lemonnier c.1950

Striking mid-century seascape painting by the French artist Louis Lemonnier (1907 - 1950) c.1950. Painted in oil on board (18" x 15") in impasto brushwork and a muted palette. Below a leaden sky waves break against the rocks of the Pointe de la Varde at Rotheneuf near Saint Malo on the Brittany coast. Clearly signed in the lower left corner. Presented in the original frame with annotations on the rear. Some very minor wear, generally excellent condition.
