Pair of Walnut Open Armchairs c.1880.
Splendid pair of late 19th.c. walnut open armchairs c.1880. Shapely moulded frames in solid walnut with curved oval backrests and open arms over sprung seats. Carved detail to the arm terminals raised on swept supports flowing gracefully into the shaped front legs, the sinous design continuing across the apron below the seat. Raised on the original turned wooden castors. Upholstered in a deep red velvet with brass studs. Original maker’s label to the underside. Repair to one of the front legs on one chair as shown here. Otherwise very good colour and condition with serviceable covers (minor wear and damage to the rear of the backrest on one). Frames have been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
