Pair of Mahogany Commodes c.1850

Spectacular pair of large mid 19th.c. mahogany commodes or chests of drawers, probably Italian c.1850. Of matching size and design but with slight differences in the applied decoration. Four long drawers to each chest, the top drawers are both fitted with dividers and the bottom drawers being hidden in the plinth. Highly figured flame mahogany and rosewood veneers across the top front and the lovely shaped sides, with elaborate decoration inlaid in pewter. Raised on shaped bracket feet at the front, also with inlaid decoration. Note the matching keys to both chests of drawers. Excellent colour and condition with repairs to the veneers and some missing inlay. One of the chests appears to have been made to separate into two horizontal sections. Restored, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
