Painting of a Horse and Foal Dated 1929

Large framed painting in oil on canvas of a horse and foal dated 1929. On a summer day a white mare rests beside a sleeping chestnut foal laid on the bare ground. With lush grass and trees in the background painted with textured brushwork. Monogrammed and dated 1929 in the lower left hand corner. Presented in the original gilded gesso frame with a paper label on the rear titled 'June' and inscribed for the artist Lucy Hargreaves of Ellesmere in Shropshire. Hargreaves was active in the late 19th and early 20th century specializing in equine pictures. Patched repair to the shoulder of the foal. Otherwise good condition.
