Oil painting of Anderlecht dated 1813

Interesting large oil on canvas of Anderlecht dated 1813. An attractive genre scene of peasant women and children in front of picturesque cottages. Note the stooped old man walking with a stick between the houses at the centre of the painting. Overlooking the scene is the distinctive tower of the Church of St. Peter and St. Guido as it looked prior to the erection of the Gothic spire in 1898. With a rather indistinct inscription in the lower left corner of the canvas which reads Anderlecht T.S Cooper 1813. Evidence of some repairs to the rear of the canvas. Presented unframed on a wooden stretcher.
