Marquetry Inlaid Sewing Table c.1870

Late 19th.c. sewing table or work box c.1870. Octagonal top with a thumb moulded edge in satinwood veneer with contrasting inlaid marquetry design of a peacock amongst foliage . Opens to reveal a fitted interior with original pink silk and paper lining featuring small compartments for threads etc, around a central well with an octagonal lid. The marquetry decoration is repeated on the inside of the lid, on the shaped apron and on the tapering sides below. Raised on a turned rosewood column and carved tripod legs. Very good condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.
