Mahogany Secretaire Abattant Writing Bureau c.1840

Mid 19th.c. French Biedermeier style mahogany and marble top secretaire abattant or writing bureau c.1840. Open the fall to reveal a large desk (height 28") with a leather writing surface. Fitted interior with an open bookshelf plus one long and five small stationery drawers. With a long frieze drawer above the bureau and a two door cupboard below fitted with three drawers inside. Original grey marble top with rounded front corners. Exceptionally well figured flame mahogany veneers arranged in a beautiful symmetrical pattern across front and sides and continued on the interior. Original inlaid brass escutcheons and working locks, original turned bone drawer knobs on the desk interior. Moulded plinth, also veneered to match, and raised on the original moulded block feet. Oak drawer linings and back panels. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.
