Large Terracotta Figure of a Woman Bathing. After Falconet c.1910
Beautiful terracotta nude after the great 18th.c. French sculptor Falconet c.1910. Full length Classical style figure of a woman sat bathing on a rocky plinth. Inscribed in the clay for Falconet together with the date 1764 (date of the original). Presented as found with some discolouration, otherwise in very good condition.
Etienne Maurice Falconet (1716-91) was director of sculpture at the famous Royal porcelain manufacturers Sévres until he was invited to Russia by Catherine the Great for whom he produced the bronze figure of Peter the Great on Horseback in St Petersburg which is probably his best known work.
