Large Silver Dressing Table Mirror by William Comyns. London 1896
Unusually large late 19th.c. silver easel back dressing table mirror hallmarked London 1896. 13"x17½" oval mirror plate with a bevelled edge. Superb pierced solid silver surround with fine chased decoration in the Classical style featuring winged cherubs and centaurs amongst scrolling acanthus. Stamped with a clear set of hallmarks (date stamp 1896) and the maker's mark W.C for William Comyns. Unusually, the mirror plate is angle adjustable within the frame. Original royal blue velvet backing cloth and hinged stand. Some minor tarnish to the mirror and obvious wear to the backing cloth.
