Large Oval Gilt Mirror c.1880

Fabulous large late 19th.c. gilt mirror c.1880. Measuring six feet from top to bottom. Original 31" x 38½" oval mirror plate within a gilded frame with multiple bands of moulded detail. Topped with an exceptional pierced gesso frieze featuring a large scallop shell flanked with scrolling acanthus leaves and draped with a garland of flowers, angled so as to stand well proud of the wall and repeated as a smaller version at the bottom of the frame. Retaining the original gilding rubbed though in places to reveal the red ground below and aged to a lovely mellow gold colour. Excellent condition with just a few very minor missing portions of gesso and retouching. Original backboards.
