Large Art Nouveau Planter c.1890

Remarkable large indoor plater or jardinière c.1890. Six feet long and 41" tall. Zinc lined trough (internal dimensions 59" x 16" x 16"). Beautiful carved walnut exterior with exuberant Gothic and Art Nouveau inspired decoration. Crenelated top edge and raised ends with carved flower head roundels and leaf detail. Veneered panels to the front and sides with charming Art Nouveau poker work decoration of plants. Shaped apron and legs with pierced brackets also carved with trailing foliage. Unfortunately the original zinc lining is badly perished but we have had a new liner made to fit inside (height 5") within which plant pots could be stood. Some old wood worm holes and repairs to the feet. Otherwise very good colour and condition, solid and sturdy. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
