Exceptional Anglo-Chinese Pearl Inlaid Centre Table c.1890

Remarkable late 19th.c. Anglo-Chinese pearl inlaid centre table c.1890. 36" diameter table top veneered in rosewood with exceptional decorative inlay in mother of pearl. Fabulous design featuring a Chinese seal, a paint box and brushes, a sword, shield and a fly whisk surrounded by trees, cherry blossom, flowers and bamboo amongst which are to be found numerous birds, plus crickets, butterflies and various other creatures. Revolving with a so called birdcage movement (with six turned supports) on a turned column and tripod legs. Note how the inlay continues across every element of the base with unique details to the edges and sides of each leg and also the space between the legs. Without doubt this is the finest example of this type of table we have ever come across. Presented in excellent condition, simply cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
