Carved Pedestal c.1890

Unusual late 19th.c. Renaissance revival carved wooden pedestal or urn stand c.1890. Circular top (usable diameter 11") with scratch carved detail to carry a large urn or a piece of sculpture perhaps. Raised on three carved caryatids modelled as a young woman, a male youth and an older bearded man. Each figure has a knotted cloth around the waist, below which is acanthus carving leading down to either a hoof, a cloven hoof or a claw foot. Joined with a tricorn plinth with carved and moulded edge and raised on acanthus leaf feet. Some minor wear, generally very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
