Carved Oak Plinth c.1860
Unusual little carved oak console or plinth c.1860. Ideal against a wall as a stand for a bust or piece of sculpture perhaps. 22" x 12" top with an applied chamfered edge. Raised on a splendid pair of turned columns with carved capitals. Back panel also crisply carved with foliage and a ribbon on which is painted in gold the Latin inscription 'Succurre Nobis Perpetim' (Help or aid us eternally). The gold is also used as highlight on the mouldings surrounding the panel and on the columns. Presented as found in very good condition (missing a couple of small portions of the chamfered edge).
