Small 17th.c. Carved Oak Coffer c.1660

17th.c. carved oak coffer c.1660. Unusual dimensions, just 39" wide. 1½" thick top made from a single slab of oak with a deep moulded edge. Opening on large iron hinges and sturdy enough to be used as a hall seat with storage perhaps. Front carved (again from a single board) to resemble more sophisticated panelled construction, with leaf and flower head motifs. With an applied moulding forming a pointed gable over the key hole and a deep moulded base trim, both continued on the sides. Great rustic character with some earlier restorations. Excellent colour, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
