18th.c. Walnut Bureau c.1730
Beautiful early 18th.c. English walnut bureau c.1730. Open the fall to reveal a fitted interior of small drawers and pigeon holes arranged around a little lockable cupboard at the centre. With a leather work surface and a sliding section allowing access to the top drawer whilst the desk is in use. Below the desk are small loafer drawers (to hold the fall when open) either side of the short top drawer plus three long drawers of graduated height. Beautifully figured honey-coloured English walnut veneers arranged in a symmetrical pattern across the top front and sides, with feather or herringbone inlays and crossbanded edges. Cockbeaded drawer fronts with period style brass handles. Oak drawer linings, note the front to back grain of the drawer bases, a sign of early 18th.c. cabinet making. Crossbanded moulding around the base and raised on shaped bracket feet to the front and sides. Earlier repairs and restorations but generally excellent condition and particularly good colour. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops keg supplied for the fall, interior cupboard and the top drawer.
