Small 17th.c. Carved Oak Box Stool c.1640
Fabulous little 17th.c. oak six plank chest or box stool c.1640. Just 24½" wide. Constructed from solid oak boards with a hinged lid opening to reveal storage and a small compartment within. Original carved frieze to the front featuring a repeated pattern of crossed lunettes and naive leaf detail. Shaped apron below and unusual projecting front feet. Note the moulded and chip carved edges to the top, the unusual scratch carved detail to the lid of the inside compartment and the pointed arches on the sides with an incised cross at the point of each. Repair to the front left hand foot and missing the lock receiver from the lid. Otherwise very good colour and condition.
