Mahogany Secretaire Abattant c.1900
Very smart French mahogany secretaire abattant or writing bureau c.1900. Open the fall to reveal a good sized desk (height 31") with a red tooled leather work surface and fitted interior of shelves and small oak lined drawers. With a single drawer above the fall and a two door cupboard below, fitted with a single shelf and divider inside (internal depth 12"). Original white marble top with rounded projecting front corners and a moulded edge. Well figured veneers to the exterior and the internal drawer fronts. Large brass mounts at the shoulders and brass mouldings to the drawer, fall and door fronts. Flanked with fluted column pilasters, repeated as square columns at the back edge. Raised on turned and tapering legs with brass finial feet front and rear. Oak lined interior and oak back panels. Unusual mechanism to the fall lock with latchbolts at the top and sides for extra security. Original key supplied to work the fall, drawer and cupboard lock, note the trefoil shaped pin in the locks and the key shaped to match. Some small chips along the back edge of the marble and old marks to the leather. Otherwise excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
