Small 17th.c. Oak Six Plank Coffer c.1650

Lovely little 17th.c. oak six plank coffer c.1650. Simple construction from six oak boards (plus an additional piece at the base of the rear), these coffers are one of the very earliest forms of joined furniture. Unusual small size, just 33" wide. Sturdy enough to use as a little hall seat with storage. Deep chip carved edges to the lid and an shaped detail at the base of the sides to form the feet. Great rustic character, with later mismatched iron hinges and an old repair around the lock plate. Excellent colour with particularly nice patina to the top. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
