Small Oak Secretaire Bookcase with Brass Panels c.1880
Fabulous late 19th.c. Renaissance revival oak secretaire bookcase with brass panels c.1880. Useful small size, just 35½" wide at the cornice. Glazed bookcase top with leaded glass panels, fitted inside with two adjustable shelves (internal depth 9"), over two small drawers. Base with a secretaire drawer opening to form a writing desk, over a two door cupboard fitted with a single shelf. A remarkable piece of furniture with extensive carved detail and extraordinary Classical inspired repoussé brass panels to the drawer and door fronts featuring cavorting putti, birds and grotesques amongst scrolling acanthus. Unusual turned spindles to the sides of the secretaire drawer and four small stationery drawers. Oak panelled sides and rear. Oak drawer linings. Cracks to a couple of the pieces of glass in the top doors. Otherwise excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied for all three locks.
