Marble Top Secretaire & Linen Press c.1880
Beautiful late 19th.c. walnut and marble top bedroom linen press with a secretaire desk drawer c.1880. Original grey marble top over one long drawer and a two door cupboard fitted with three large slides for linen and clothes, plus another drawer hidden in the plinth. The front of the top drawer folds open to form a desk with a leather topped writing surface and four small stationery drawers. A hidden catch inside the cupboard allows the desk to slide further forward giving access to three small compartments hidden behind. Crisp carved moulded detail to the drawer and door fronts and unusual slim carved faux columns to the front corners. Sparkling inlaid birdseye maple veneers to the desk interior, repeated on the front of the slides. Raised on moulded bracket front feet. Oak drawer linings throughout. Damage to the original leather on the desk, otherwise excellent condition, note the original large brass locks. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.
