Indianapolis Cabinet Company Roll Top Desk.

IMG_8152

We’ve had some pretty cool pieces of office furniture in the past but this surely tops the lot! A truly spectacular walnut roll top desk built on an epic scale by the Indianapolis Cabinet Company c.1890. Open the tamboured front to reveal a prodigiously fitted interior with numerous pigeon holes and drawers for filing. Unique to these desks (often described as Wooton desks after the original manufacturer), the sides hinge open to create a much bigger work space and allow access to 6 more drawers big enough for sheets of A4 paper with sprung stays and original brass label holders.
On a twin pedestal base with eight drawers which is are automatically locked closed when the roll is down. There is alos cupboard inside the kneehole (which slides forward on rails) with yet more storage for files etc. Panelled and polished on all sides with a carved flower detail to the front. Superb condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops and fitted with a new tooled green leather skiver. Original handles and maker’s badges. Original locks and keys supplied to both the roll top and kneehole cupboard. Splits into two pieces plus the side ‘wings’ for ease of delivery.
Dimensions: width 60”/104”, depth 36”, height 61”.
