Stunning mahogany wardrobe by the acclaimed English cabinet makers Shapland & Petter of Barnstable c.1905. Dramatically flared and moulded cornice over two long mirror doors, fitted for hanging inside, plus two large drawers in the base. Fixed centre panel and drawer fronts with exceptional marquetry inlay featuring stylized plant forms with heart shaped centres in mother of pearl, just the kind of Art Nouveau influenced design for which Shapland & Petter became famous. The Art Nouveau theme is continued in the design of the brass handles which are original throughout. Superior quality with solid mahogany sides and drawer linings. Stamped S & P B on the locks. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops. Splits into two pieces plus cornice and base for ease of delivery.
Dimensions: width 80″, depth (at centre) 22″, height 82½”.
Note this is part of a suite of bedroom furniture all with the same inlaid details comprising this wardrobe, a dressing table and a tile top washstand.
