West African Yaure Mask.

Superb ceremonial mask by the Yaure or Baule peoples of Ivory Coast in West Africa c.1960. Carved from a single block of wood with the elongated features, coiffured hair and semi-circular eyes typical of the form and a striking red paint finish. Carved detail to the hair, cheeks and forehead and holes at the sides presumably for mounting onto a costume.
