Welsh Oak Armchair c.1840.

Mid 19th.c Welsh oak armchair. A lovely piece of vernacular design, originating here in North Wales (Angelsey or Caernarfonshire) c.1840. Solid oakframe,  backrest with shaped top rail and silhouette centre splat over shaped arms and a large fruitwood seat with moulded edge. Note the unusual carved detail to the front stiles where they rise above the seat to join the arms. Front and rear stiles joined with stretchers on each side to make a very strong and sturdy chair. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
