Small Distressed Regency Gilt Mirror c.1820.

Unusually small and heavily distressed Regency period gilt framed pier glass or overmantle mirror c.1820. Original 10½” x 18″ mirror plate, the silvering on the back of the glass is so clouded and textured as to be almost completely opaque. Within a gilded wooden frame with broad overhanging cornice and simple moulded gesso frieze over long turned faux column sides. Raised on brass bun feet to sit on a piece of furniture or narrow fireplace perhaps. Presented as found with obviously wear to the gilding, nevertheless a delightful item.
