Small 18th.c. Oak Box Settle c.1730.

Delightful little early 18th.c. oak settle or hall seat c.1730. Just over four feet wide. Panelled back with two rows of flat panels joined with moulded rails and mullions. Short shaped arms on turned supports over a loose plank seat which lifts to reveal storage for shoes and boots etc. Panelled front and sides below the seat and an elm floor. Great rustic character with excellent colour and patina and various initials scratch carved on the backrest. Some old wear and repairs and iron bracing to the seat. Note how the interior and rear has been left dry and unwaxed.
