Pair of Classical Bronze Figure Lamps c.1900.

Fabulous pair of tall bronze figure lamps c.1900. Modelled as the Classical gods Mercury (Hermes in Greek mythology) with his winged helmet and ankles and Fortuna with her long bugle, each carried on a gust of wind from the mouth of cherub zephyr. Adapted from the original figures by the Renaissance master Giambologna (1529-1608), each holds a torch with original frosted glass shade modelled to resemble flames. Raised on black marble pliths with bronze frieze depicting cherub practicing the arts of sculpture and drawing. A couple of little chips from the edges of the plinths and the tip of one shade. Otherwise excellent condition. Freshly rewired and PAT tested.
Note the flush fitting screw at the rear of each figure to allow access to the wiring.
