Painted Pine Chest c.1830.

 Superb early 19th.c. painted chest from Northern Europe, probably German or Scandinavian c.1830. In pine, retaining the original paintwork designed to look like the veneers of some exotic timber. With beautiful decorative floral panels painted on the lid and sides. The front features quite rare hand painted images of two Napoleonic era cavalrymen on horseback wearing splendid uniforms, plumed hats and brandishing their curved sabres. With two small fitted compartments inside the box. Moulded edge to the lid and shaped base moulding. In remarkable condition with original iron hinges, lock and key.
