Majolica Dish with Monkey by Bretby Art Pottery c.1890.

Remarkable late 19th.c. majolica ware table centre or dish by the Derbyshire pottery Bretby c.1890. Modelled in the form of a particularly wily looking monkey nibbling some very realistic walnuts from an oval platter in Bretby’s distinctive green glaze with a edge modelled as bull rushes. Clear Bretby sunburst mark to the underside together with a model number and a registered design mark. With an old repair to the tip of the tail, otherwise excellent condition.
