Georgian Oak Writing Bureau c.1800

Fine example of the classic late Georgian oak writing bureau c.1800. Open the fall to reveal a good sized writing surface with a fresh green leather skiver and a particularly good fitted interior. Featuring six pigeon holes, twelve small drawers and a central lockable compartment, plus various cleverly hidden extra little drawers. Unusual configuration of drawers to the base, with two long drawers of graduated depth below a shorter top drawer flanked with two set of two smaller drawers – the top ones acting as supports when the fall is open.  Mahogany crossbanded fall and drawer fronts retaining a majority of original brass handles and escutcheon plates (note some missing portions of the back plates and the bottom drawer escutcheon plate appears to be a replacement). Raised on shaped bracket feet front and rear. Solid oak top, fall, drawer fronts and sides, the interior is also in oak. Excellent colour and condition, restored, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied for the fall and the small internal compartment.
