Exceptional Chinese Altar Table c.1880.

Stunning Chinese hardwood altar table c.1880. Of striking design, would make a fine hall or console table. Exceptional example of the form. Typical long and narrow dimensions, with unusual scroll ends and a carved and pierced frieze of plant forms and bats (symbol of luck and prosperity) and coins (with a hole at the centre as used in Imperial Chinese currency for hundreds of years) which is repeated on both sides. Raised on straight legs with carved detail at the knees and feet to all four. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
