Arts & Crafts Bedroom Suite by Arthur Simpson of Kendal c.1900.

Spectacular oak bedroom suite by the acclaimed Arts & Crafts cabinet maker Arthur Simpson of Kendal c.1900. Comprising large wardrobe, a dressing table with adjustable mirror, travertine marble top wash stand and single bedside cabinet. Of striking design and exceptional quality cabinet making, typical of Simpson’s furniture, in solid oak throughout. Each piece in the suite retains the superb original handmade brass handles by Richard Rathbone of Liverpool (each one stamped on the rear) who provided the metalwork for Simpson’s furniture as well as working with other such great names of the Arts & Crafts movement such as Macmurdo and Voysey. All four pieces are in excellent original condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.

Wardrobe with two large doors opening to reveal ample hanging space inside, retaining the original brass rails and hooks. Original full length bevelled dressing mirror to the right hand door, over two useful large drawers in the base. Unusual shaped sides and a beautifully carved frieze of stylised plant forms over arched panels with scroll detail on the right hand door. Some shadowing to the mirror which could be easily replaced if preferred.
Splits into three pieces plus cornice for ease of delivery

Dressing table chest of drawers with original shield shaped and bevelled mirror, angle adjustable on a superb quality bronze fitting of a type used on Simpson furniture. Over two small drawers, a dressing table surface and two short and two long drawers of graduated depth. Unusually shaped sides, raised and fielded drawer fronts, crisply carved and moulded detail to the uprights and sides.

A large washstand with a beautiful faun coloured travertine marble top and splash-back over a small single door cupboard and an open recess. Folding brass towel rail to one the left hand side. Moulded top rail, carved detail to the door front to match the panels on the wardrobe. Unusual design to the sides of the legs which are joined with a small stretcher shelf at the rear. With the same carved and moulded detail to the uprights and sides as found on the dressing table.
