19th.c. Easy Armchair By Hampton & Sons, London c.1880

Late 19th.c. easy armchair in the manner of Howard & Son by the great Victorian makers and retailers Hampton & Sons of London c.1880. Raked and buttoned upholstered back over shaped arms and a large sprung seat. With crisply turned walnut arm supports and front legs. Upholstered in a rich crimson velour. Retaining the original brass and brown pot castors each one clearly stamped for Hampton & Sons Pall Mall.  Good solid unrestored condition with clean covers.
Hampton & Sons were established in 1830, moving to their very large and prestigious Pall Mall showrooms in 1869. They offered a complete service to clients from surveying and building to the fitting and furnishing of interiors. Customers included the Royal family.
