Rare mid 18th.c. Dutch mahogany metamorphic armchair and daybed c.1760. Very impressively proportioned  high back open armchair with shaped wings, beautifully carved arms and cabriole legs. Open the two original brass catches on the sides to allow the back to recline and the seat to fold over to make a long daybed or sleeping chair. Early mahogany timbers of exceptional colour, used as veneers on an oak subframe with solid mahogany cresting rail, arms and legs. Unusually shaped backrest with carved acanthus leaf spay at the centre and moulded detail to the front edge. Folding oak support to hold the backrest when reclined, webbed back and seat with loose cushions. Old damage to the backrest, otherwise excellent original condition with clean upholstery. Note the original brass and leather castors to the feet.
