17th.c. Welsh Oak Server c.1670.

Rare late 17th.c. Welsh oak server or hall table c.1670. 74″ long with a superb top made of three thick boards, heavily worn with age. Rounded front corners and edges to the front and sides whilst the rear is left straight to sit against a wall. The table top sits lose a tall peg jointed base, five legs with chamfered edges and simple ogee detail joined with low stretchers on each side. Great rustic character with obvious wear to the left hand end of the top but generally very good condition, solid and sturdy and original height (most furniture from this period has lost height over the years as the feet have rotted and worn). New bearers below the table top and a small block foot added to the rear right hand leg to balance the table. Note how the of the base and the inside of the front legs and stretchers are left dry and unwaxed.
